COLLINGWOOD WORKSHOP 11/2
RECEPTIVE FIELD 11/2 KUNDALINI YOGA AND MEDITATION WORKSHOP WITH BRITT
We’ll have chai, learn some fundamentals, do some evening / waning moon appropriate movement, and practise mantra meditation. We’ll also work a little with upcoming planetary transits, ingresses and eclipses (beginning in Aquarius on the 17th). Mat and cushion are provided.
Kundalini Yoga is a holistic and somatic practice that utilises kriya (meaning ‘complete action,’ or structured sequence of precise physical exercises), pranayama (breathwork), meditation and mantra. Mantra - from Sanskrit where man is mind and trang is vibration, direction or wave - is a distinct and vital element. We use specific Kundalini mantras (usually in the Gurmukhi language) to direct focus positively and to assist in clearing the subconscious, which is where we operate from at our default setting. When used well together with the movement of the body and breath, the mantras prepare us most ideally for meditation. Many meditations use mantras, sometimes chanted, with specific mudras (hand postures). There are thousands of kriyas and meditations within this discipline, and it is important to practise them as they were given and with reverence. Part of a teacher’s job is to facilitate this exchange. There may be a particular aim, but a good class will often directly and efficiently address all the systems - nervous, endocrine, digestive and subtle energy, as well as strengthening the spine, brain and neurobiology. Like taking your car for the most comprehensive service, except you’re the car.
This workshop is designed to be an effective introduction to the practice, though there are no ‘beginner’s level’ classes in Kundalini Yoga. Your experience is yours and the teacher will instruct but not give adjustments. Practising in a group is favoured, and you will also be given examples of quick and easy things you could try in daily life. Kundalini Yoga is known as the Yoga of Awareness, and though it has ancient roots, was designed for the times we are living in now. Therefore it is also a ‘householder’s practice’ - you can do it on the floor in your pyjamas or in your parked car if you only have three minutes to feel better, and you definitely don’t have to renounce the world to have an elevated encounter with it. In my opinion, having a deeper experience of ‘normal life’ has never been more accessible or more important, and this doesn’t need to take much time from your day. Of course you can also go big at major lunar and solar occasions, which is a great way to incorporate their energy.
Central and gorgeous Smith St location (southern end). Parking available on Wellington and Perry St, limited parking on Smith, Gipps and Stanley St. Underground garage at Coles, 69 Little Oxford St.
Tickets via Humanitix
Any and all questions are more than welcome, please don't hesitate! I would love to see you there.
